What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?

It is an evidence based therapy, widely used in the NHS for common mental health problems. It focuses on looking mainly at the here and now. It involves looking at patterns of thinking that we can all get caught up in at times of stress or anxiety, and ways of managing these differently. It also involves looking at behaviours and what is helping and what isn't, and making changes.

My hope is that the experience of it, is that it is an empowering way of gaining some sense of agency and control at times when things feel overwhelming and difficult. It also aims to help gain insight into triggers and catalysts for difficulties, both from past experiences and in the here and now.

It involves developing some ideas together of short term, medium term and long term goals that can help guide the work and also track progress.
